Halo 3 2v2 Slayer Tournament

The Social Gaming Club will be hosting a Halo 3 tournament. This tournament will feature a team based 2v2 slayer matches to determine the winner. Each team will have their own console and screen to play on. You can either enter the tournament with a team decided, or join us the day of and find a partner. This tournament will feature an entry fee and prizes for the high placing teams. Come join us for some competitive halo fun.

Entry Fee and Prizes

The entry fee per person will be $5. Please come in with exact change in hand.

Half of the entry fee money will be split among the top teams. As of right now, 1st and 2nd place team members will each receive winnings. Depending on the size of the tournament, we will award 3rd place with prize money as well. As always, 1st place will receive a larger prize than second, and second larger than third. The final amounts that the winning teams will receive will be announced before the start of the tournament.

Tournament Structure

Each match will be first to 25 points with a 10 minute time limit. If a tiebreaker occurs, the match will be replayed on the same map. The score limit will be reduced to 5 with an unlimited time. All matches will be a best of one, except for finals, which will be a best of 3.

The overall structure of the tournament will depend on the number of teams.

20 teams of less: Each team will play two pool play matches against random opponents. Then a single elimination bracket will ensue. Teams will be seeded based on their win loss ratio. Tie breakers will be determined first by kill to death ratio, and secondly by total number of kills. In this format, every team is guaranteed at least 3 matches.

21+ teams: The tournament structure will instead be a standard double elimination bracket. The seeding and subsequent byes will be determined randomly via the website challonge. In this format, every team is guaranteed at least 2 matches.

All of the above rules, but time limit changed to unlimited and score limit set to 5.

Additional Rules

The top seed will have the xbox of their choice (either the host xbox or the linked xbox). The xbox systems will be connected via ethernet system link.

The teams will always be red vs blue. The top seed will choose either of those colors.

Players may not change the name of their character. The character name will be generic. Nor can they adjust the look of their spartan. Each character will play as a spartan with default armor.

Players can change their service tag. They may also change their control scheme as they see fit. During each match, teams should allow ample time for their opponent to change these settings.


The three maps that will be used during the tournament will be the MLG v8 variants of The Pit, Guardian, and Amplified (a Foundry variant).

During each round of the tournament play, all teams will play on the same map as to be fair to all other teams. The maps played during each round will be decided the day of the tournament.

Reporting Scores and Win/Loss

The Social Gaming Club officers will have a table where scores and the outcome of matches should be reported. It is the responsibility of both teams to ensure the correct outcome has been recorded. The official bracket will be available on the website challonge throughout the tournament.
