League of Legends Spring 2013 Tips

The League of Legends event is something that is different from most events. Many players are not familiar with playing LoL in a competitive setting; tournaments are very different from playing with your friends, even in ranked 5s. In addition, even if you have some experience with tournament play, this event may be different. Therefore, I have prepared this list of tips to help everyone. Unlike the rule list, this is merely a list of suggestions and we do not require that you follow them. However, it would be beneficial if you do.

This is a marathon

You will be playing a lot of League of Legends this weekend; most of you won’t be used to playing this many games in a row. Just like in a real marathon, you should obviously practice before the event, but don’t run another marathon the day before; it will do bad things to your body, and you will be exhausted.

Prepare your body and mind

Be sure to prepare for this the same way that you prepare for a major exam; be sure to eat healthy the week or so before. (OK, I know nobody actually does this, but it’s what you should do.) During the event, make sure you have energy drinks (if you take them) or some source of sugar on-hand. The human brain can only run on sugar, and sugar cannot be stored by the body.

Make sure your team is coordinated

Make sure it is clear who will be calling the engagements and the ganks. The last thing you want is to be arguing over whose fault something is. Make these things clear so that your team can work together during the event.

Ensure all your team members know what’s going on

Even if you are not taking advantage of our facilities, it is recommended that all members of a team play from the same location. If this is not possible, as many players as possible should be in the same place. If certain members of your team have non-standard sleep schedules, ensure that they are awake at least one hour before the first round of each day. Before each game, make sure that all your team members know exactly what situation your team is in going into the next game.

Know how custom games work

You may switch the order of your team in the lobby by moving to a spectator slot and moving back; this puts you at the bottom of the list. However, be aware that game hosts cannot become spectators; if this happens, host (and therefore invite) privileges will be granted to a random player in game. When using tournament draft, you may use placeholders such as Trundle or Karma if you would like to pick a champion and remake the lobby. For example, if you would like to first pick Corki for your 4th slot but your first pick does not have Corki, he or she may pick another champion, and message the enemy team saying “Karma is actually Corki”. Then, after the conclusion of picks and bans, the game is remade, and the correct champions are picked. Tournament Draft must be used; only in tournament draft may you use “/pause” and “/unpause”, in case of problems.

Don’t hesitate to ask me anything

I know how much it sucks to have an organizer that refuses to communicate with the teams; it is something that I have had to deal with on many occasions and I don’t want to be that guy. Therefore, if you have any questions or concerns regarding any aspect of this event, please talk to me as soon as possible. It is better to ask me these questions than to assume incorrectly.

Have fun

This is, after all, the entire point of playing video games. If you ever have a problem, do not hesitate to bring it up with me. Certain rules are flexible as long as you voice your concerns with due respect and give me ample time to rectify any problems.
