League of Legends Tournament

Last revised: Spring 2012

Thank you all for participating in the first day of the League of Legends tournament! A bracket will be posted here after it is finalized. Further details will also be posted on a separate page and around campus.

Quick links: Full team registration and solo queue registration

EDIT: Solo queue registration has been extended to 6PM on Saturday.

Tournament Format

The tournament will be Double Elimination with Extended Series Finals. The bracket is capped at 32 teams.

Eligibility

The tournament is open to teams that are entirely comprised of people associated with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. (Academic staff, including professors, are welcome to play!) In order to simplify this definition, you must have a working @illinois.edu email address to participate. Only three players from each team must be present at the event; however, all members must show up to receive prizes. These three representatives must bring your own computer.

Location

The tournament will be held at the Illini Union Ballroom. Three players from each team must be present; the other two may play from home.

Cost

The cost is 25 dollars per team, paid on-site.

Registration

Preregistration can be found here, and closes at Midnight on the night of Saturday March 10. Preregistration is not required, but is recommended; there is no guarantee that you will be able to play if you do not preregister. Also note that teams that do not preregister will be charged an additional 5 dollars. Check-in begins at Noon on Sunday March 11 and lasts 30 minutes.

Game format

Each match will be played as a Bo1 or Bo3, later rounds are Bo3. For details on which matches are what format, view the schedule section. Each game will be played as a custom game on the North American server. The team designated Home will be able to choose their side or choose to be first or second pick, the Away team has the second choice. (Please note that Team 1 is the Blue, or bottom left, side.) Picks and bans will follow standard style: 1-1-1-1-1-1 bans and 1-2-2-2-2-1 picks. If the series is a Best of 3 or Best of 5, the team that lost the previous game receives the privileges of the Home team.

Extended Series Finals rule

If the Losers Bracket team beats the Winners Bracket team, instead of playing another Bo3 the series is extended to a Bo5 and play continues. This is a slight variant on the Extended Series rule used by Major League Gaming, and we use it to save time.

Side event

Players who are eliminated on March 11, the first day, will have the opportunity to play in a 1v1 First Blood/Second Tower game on April 8, the second day. A majority of the proceeds of this event will be donated to charity. Details of this event will be posted as the date approaches.
